What do you do?

Awhile back, Jersey Baby asked me what my thoughts were on vitamins. Hadn't really given vitamins that much thought, to be honest, until now...

Is it me or are there only are two options if you decide to go for kiddie vitamins?

A. Give them the traditional ones that give a basic balance of most important nutrients, but have artificial color and sweeteners
B. Give them natural vitamins, with large RDAs (recommended daily allowances) of certain components, far above 100%.

I am hoping that I have just somehow overlooked mystery option C that is a natural vitamin with basic levels of vitamins?

Also, what do you all think about gummy vitamins? I am somewhat weary of the gummy vitamins, thinking that if I accidentally leave them on the counter in my early morning haze, R and G will eat the whole jar, a la gummy bears. (Oh, you cannot appease me by telling me they have child safety lids...R once shimmied his hand through a child cabinet "lock," only to break the child safety seal on some ACT Kid's mouth rinse and drink 1/3 of the bottle.)

I am all ears...

We do the flintstone vitamins.
I have checked some at whole foods-but like you said the %s are way high.
We were discussing vitamins in class (teach middle school home ec) and my students said the gummys and the gum ones taste terrible.

Well, Hunter is a generally compliant child, so he knows when he gets his vitamins and never goes near it otherwise. He gets 1 (not the 2 recommended) every morning after he gets himself ready to go. I use a reward system. I haven't thought anything about artificial colors or sweeteners.

We do the Centrum kids vitamins. We give Jake a 1/2 and Rachel a whole.

Evan gets two gummy vitamins but not on a regular basis. I forget to give them to him but often he will ask for them. I agree it can be hard to keep them separate from regular gummy treats and sometimes Evan doesn't understand why he can't have more than two. He hasn't mastered opening child safety lids so that isn't an issue yet. I guess if he did, I would have to keep it really out of his reach. He seems to like the gummy ones and that's all I've ever tried so I've stuck with it. If you find something better, let me know!!

I guess I am lucky with Julia because she eats the gummy vitamins and knows that they are different from candy. I've never had a problem with her mixing the two up. Actually, if she sees gummy candy, she'll say, "Hey! These are just like my vitamins!" Since gummy candy in and of itself is a rarity, I just don't have a problem with the mix-up, and I keep them in a cabinet.
