Cookbook Giveaway

The farmer's markets are opening. Our sweet pea (plants) are growing in our garden. I just picked some amazing fresh collards from our yard. The CSA begins in mere weeks. Fresh, local produce is beginning to creep back into our kitchen. I love it!

To celebrate the beginning of this growing season, I am giving away a wonderful cookbook, Earth to Table: Seasonal Recipes from an Organic Farm.

This seasonally-inspired cookbook is "beautiful...in every way" according to Michael Pollan. I humbly agree, and hope you will too.

So, to enter this giveaway:

Email me your favorite thing to grow at home or buy at your local farmer's market...and how you like to eat it!

You have until midnight EST Friday, April 23rd. I will pop it into the mail to you, and you will be sure to be inspired.

Looks beautiful! My favorite thing to grow at home is basil. It is so easy and so versatile and so tasty. Also, this summer we're hoping to grow our own lettuce, if the bunnies/squirrels/deer/raccoon don't get to it first!

TOMATOES! Oh, I can't wait for tomato season. Tomato sandwiches and fresh tomato sauce are my favorite!

AWESOME! Well, I absolutely cannot wait for fresh, homegrown tomatoes...I go overboard every year because I'm afraid i'm not going to have enough (yeah, like the 35 plants I put in last year just weren't going to cut it?). BUT, we also have chickens and now I am spoiled and usually have a temper tantrum if I have to get eggs from the grocery! They're just not the same!

We're tomatoes, too. Cherry tomatoes. As many as my kiddos can eat - and they eat them by the handful

I love berries. I grew up with a raspberry patch in my backyard and I was spoiled. They are so hard to come by and a total splurge now!

Kale. Hands down. Sweet fall kale with a sploosh of Italian salad dressing and some goat cheese. It doesn't get any better than that! This year I'm trying broccoli since the guy who is usually at the farmer's market wasn't sure how much he was going to have this year... scary!

I love sweet corn from my local farmer's market! I eat it straight from the cob or sauteed (until browned) on the stove with a little sea salt and fresh thyme!

I just recently found your blog and LOVE it!
Hmmm, until this year I've only grown herbs but we're attempting a vegetable garden this year. If everything works out, I'm most excited about growing my own squash and zucchini! I make everything with it during the summer--meatballs, sautes, muffins, etc...Crossing my fingers I have a green thumb!
Thanks for the cookbook chance, looks like a great one!

Oh with out a doubt I love to grow carrots. I harvest them when they are young and tender, and then sautee them in a bit of olive oil/butter and garnish them with fresh mint and parsley. YUM

Being your sis-in-law I am know I am not eligible for your give- aways, however I wanted to share anyway!

My absolute favorite thing this time of year is to go strawberry picking with the kids at a local farm. We go twice a season (at least) and overdose on strawberries - which I end up freezing to make smoothies with in the winter when we are badly missing fresh strawberries. I have years of pictures of the kids with red juice running down their mouths - best way to eat = fresh off the plant. The pictures change each year as the kids are growing, but the PURE EXCITEMENT of the family to pick strawberries hasn't changed. And that is saying A LOT for my pre-teen!!

What a wonderful giveaway!!! My favorite thing to grow at home is basil. I especially like with tomatoes, but also to realize a good pesto!
Greatings, Barbara

Yellow squash! And my FAVORITE way to use it is a variation of Vegetable Moussaka from South Beach Diet Book. I use yellow squash in place of eggplant (not a favorite in our home), and the recipe calls for lentils instead of the meat layer and a "light" bechamel (sp??) sauce. DELICIOUS!

Gosh, I'd just about have to list everything :D but a few favorites are basil for pesto, the tomatoes from our CSA which we usually eat almost daily on BLT's sometimes with an egg too, or green beans from our CSA which we make into huge pots of italian green beans (with our homemade tomato sauce from farm tomatoes of course :)

Maybe this will help me figure out what to do with our CSA boxes that start arriving June 1. I'm especially terrified of the kale, so if I don't win the giveaway, you have to promise to help me figure out some preparations for the dark green leafy vegetable that the kids will love too. Or at least eat!

As far as our favorite things... strawberries. Strawberries, strawberries and strawberries. Is it cheating to pick something so simple that requires no prep?

My favorite treat to grow in my garden is lavender. Lavender is not just for sachets, it is also a wonderful ingredient. My husband and I have made lavender creme brulee and lavender cupcakes but nothing can compare to a lavender martini. We make a simple syrup using dried lavender from our garden, fresh-squeezed lemon juice, a touch of honey, and of course, a good quality vodka. Shake it on ice, strain and enjoy!

Actually I'd like to be able to make my own cheese (like halloumi, ricotta etc) cause the ones sold here are so expensive! I'd like to make a Indian style of grilled tandoori halloumi cheese! I've had it once in Sydney before and it's amazing!

Huge buckets of fiddleheads can be bought at my local farmers markets. Mmm...but here where I live they are called TĂȘte du Violin.
