Came across this article on the Academy of American Pediatrics' thoughts on switching from whole to 2% milk for some toddlers. It made me take notice because R was off the charts on height and weight as a toddler and our pediatrician said we could switch to a lower-fat milk at 18 months. I remember getting some mild grief from a few folks about "he needs the fat for brain development!" This makes me feel better, not that I lost any sleep.
When did you switch your child from whole to a lower-fat milk?

at 2 years - totally textbook, plus it means there's whole milk around for my coffee...
We switched Brady to skim milk at age 2, I believe.
We switched at 2 for E...but this totally makes me feel better because I saw a 2% bottle in A's room at school and I was going to have to have "a talk" with them. Now I can avoid confrontation!
YIPEE!
And I'm with JB...I love having the whole milk around for coffee.
We switched at 2 yrs. It was kind of a pain to have two types of milk in the house, but I'm thinking of giving Evan heavy cream when he's one if he doesn't start gaining some weight!! (j/k)But if the point of that article was about childhood obesity, I don't think anyone sharing your gene pool will have that problem!!
Hi! I found you thru Jersey Baby. My youngest just turned two and has always been right around 50th for weight and 75th for height, so we waited until he just turned 2to take him off whole milk. I have a friend whose son is 'off the charts' big, and she switched him to 2% at 18 months per her pediatrician. Our son also loves vanilla almond milk, yummy in coffee, too. Have you ever tried it? Delish! Its a little expensive, but Logan has it once a day with his snack as a special treat. Trader's Joes seems to have the best price on it...
Harrison, like R, was off the charts so we switched him at 18 months. Brady and Jack are average for weight, so they will be on whole milk until 2.
Landon is actually under weight, but doc said to switch to 2% so we did!
I don't remember but I just switched Hunter to Skim at 3. You?
I switched both of my boys to skim at 2 years. My older son was off the charts with weight but is now really skinny at 4-1/2 and my 2-year-old is pretty thin.
Michelle, thanks for the tip on the Vanilla Almond TJ's milk...I *love* TJs so I will check it out!
