We're about 97% packed up and the moving van arrives tomorrow early. I was feeling good, really good, about where we are in the moving process.
It was going almost a little *too* smoothly...
So, it figures that today, of all days, I unknowingly left our kitchen sink faucet in the "on" position during the city's maintenance of a water line. The water main had been shut off...
When the city turned on the water, my kitchen faucet began to flow and flow, and no one was home. I returned after lunch to find...
a flooded kitchen...
a soaked basement ceiling...
a sopping wet basement floor...
and our laptop, TV, iPod, digital camera, Flip, and lots of other gear soaking wet.
One huge praise...no photos or sentimental items were ruined. Another tremendous praise...no one was hurt. We are all okay. Keeping things in perspective, I am very, very thankful.
So, all is well, except our poor kitchen. As I type the ServiceMaster gurus are tearing up my kitchen...it is going to be a late night. I would post pictures, but I will soon be shopping for a new camera.
Again, in the big scheme, this is an inconvenience that is very fixable. But not exactly how I wanted the end of an era in this house to conclude.
Tomorrow's a new day-

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear this! I hope things get better... maybe with some help from bacon? :D
THIS is a complete tragedy. My head would explode. You sound like you are remaining calm. If you say that you cried a little bit, I wouldn't judge you, cuz I know I would definitely be shedding some tears.
Talk about a Dramatic Close! But you're right... No one was hurt and it's all replaceable. Good luck with the last 3%!
Oh no!! Definitely not what you needed the night before you move. I hope everything can be fixed in time.
Ohhh. In the midst of all that you managed to keep your head above water (pun intended) and even took time to blog about it. In all seriousness, I trust by the time you get this comment, all is fixed and you're sefely on your way.
Oh my goodness! Jess, I would be freaking out! I know it's probably all fixed by now and you're enjoying a glass - or many more - of wine.
I so feel your pain. We've done experienced operator-error induced flooding twice - the second time about 2 weeks after everything got put back together from the previous flood.
Good for you for maintaining a positive attitude, I know how hard that is!
Thanks ladies for your kind words. RC, don't let my "calmness" in the blog post fool you, when I discovered the kitchen I was semi-calm, but when I discovered the basement mess, I was hysterical.
Now a week later, I can almost, almost see it as "a good story."
Kendra, I cannot even imagine this happening twice. Ugh. But you lived to tell the story, and as I keep telling myself, "that's why you have insurance."
Fearless...some bacon is definitely in order!!!
