Next year R will be attending school full day and need to pack a lunch. A few months ago a store opened up around the corner that sells bento boxes and other "green" lunch packing choices. I had had my eye on one type of box in particular, but then I stumbled across this website and my choice received only a 2 out of 5 lunchbox rating.
Not sure if a lunchbox purchase is in your future, but this website, Top Lunch Box Reviews could be helpful. It sort of reminds me of the book I used when buying new baby things, Baby Bargains. It breaks down each lunch box option and rates the pros and cons...
A friend of mine uses a box she bought her son on Lunchbots.com, but any personal thoughts on lunch boxes out there?

this isn't so much the lunch box but the sandwich/snack bag inside -- resnackit.com -- just came across them thru facebook friends -- look great!
Laptop Lunchbox. I have loved it and so has my daughter!
I just found the cutest personalized lunch box site... www.sweetmadys.com. I went there for the puzzle shaped sandwich cutters, but love the lunch boxes too. I know Happy Sacks makes reusable "baggies" for sandwiches and snacks. We use lots of teeny tiny tupper ware, courtesy of MIL. I also love the metal drink thermoses and short hot food thermoses you can find at Target or WalMart with characters you open with a press of the button.
We've been packing lunches since Rachel was 2. Yikes! That's a lot of lunches.
My son is in 1st grade, and we've used one from Land's End each year. Very "boy" looking, and he loves having his name on it...they hold up soooo well! I only got a new from from Kindergarten to first grade simply to shake it up colorwise! The best part is you can get a junior sized backpack to match...perfect size for these younger grades :)
Thanks Ladies! Michelle, I was leaning toward the LapTop Lunch too...but it got such cruddy reviews. But you like it, eh? I trust a mom's insight...
I got the goodbin (I think that's what it is called) from bento. It's the one piece that has diff compartments and the lid seals them all. It's big and a little hard to seal. I don't think Moi will be using it for quite awhile, but I can take it when we all go on a picnic or something b/c it will hold applesauce and yogurt. They have them at Sprout Soup.
Meg-That's a good point, using the bento now for picnics, outings, etc to get a feel for what is best for school!
Jessica,
I use the Bentos set and it all the pieces fit in the star wars lunch box he picked from Target. I think I got it from Lap top lunches. That sounds familair. I just got the inside pieces and they work great:-) I have one set and wash every day, but I asked for another set for Christmas:-)Elizabeth Page
We've been through it all this year. Started with Laptop Lunches but decided we didn't like it (the lid was too hard for my son to open, I missed having lids on different bowls, and I didn't love the idea of all that plastic). Tried Lunchbots, but didn't love the way they were made (rough edges, sort of tinny). Finally ended up with a Pottery Barn boxy lunch box, using Togo-wear's stainless steel sidekicks for containers, along with a Klean Kanteen for the drink and Wastenot Saks in lieu of plastic bags. It's working for us!
