Take a hot dog bun and place in it a banana instead of a dog. Use peanut butter as "mustard" and dried cranberries or strawberries as "ketchup."

Despite R being very excited to make his Banana Boat, he wasn't that into eating it. Hmm. I chalk it up as just a typical preschool idiosyncrasy, so I will have to try it again. But perhaps a fun idea for you to try with your sweet peas.

Great idea. I bet a 7-10 year old would really love it! Preschoolers are so reluctant to try new things!
ReplyDeleteHa ha....you're so imaginative. This is such a cute idea!!!
ReplyDeletewhat a cute idea. she would love to make it, but wouldn't take a bite of it....
ReplyDeleteI do something similar for a breakfast treat. Slather a banana with peanut butter on one side (while lying it on a plate), then sprinkle with colored sprinkles. So simple but my kids love it and eat the whole banana and get the PB protein. Its always a hit. Thanks for the lunch idea, I love it!
ReplyDeleteDon't know if J would go for it, but my father-in-law makes her "banana sandwiches." He slices a banana into circles and then pretends they are the "bun" and puts peanut butter between them to make a sandwich. I have never seen this man cook other than to make toast, so I was amazed at his creativity. Julia loves them and like a previous poster said, it gives them the banana they love, and some protein too.
ReplyDeleteThis might help my daughter learn to like PB. She loves bananas. I tried a PBJ with banana and she refused it. My son would probably love the banana with PB and sprinkles. He is very into sprinkles.
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE this.
ReplyDeleteUh...I mean...the girls will love this!
Where do you come up with this stuff? If only I were so creative. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the great feedback--it is amazing how the humble banana-peanut butter combo can really get creative. Erin, I love the idea of making mini-sandwiches with the banana slices themselves!
